Old World vs. New World:
Simply divide the wine world into two parts: the old world and the new world, and some trends will become apparent. Europe’s classic wine-growing countries of France, Italy, Spain, and Germany represent the major share of Old World wine imported into the US today. Most New World wines are produced in the US, and the Southern Hemisphere countries of Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Old World wines are generally subtler in style whereas New World wines are bolder. Old World wines are also higher in acidity, lower in alcohol, leaner in body, and less oaky than their New World counterparts. And you will experience more “non-fruit flavors” in an Old World wine (e.g. minerals, stone, tar, tea, leather, etc.) than in a New World one. To what you ask are these differences attributed?? Come taste 6 special wines and find out.
The Classic Grape Varieties:
What makes Cabernet taste like Cabernet? How about Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, or Sauvignon Blanc? In this educational tasting we will take an in-depth assessment of the major grape varieties, their characteristics, and learn why different grapes produce different styles of wine. All in an effort to better understand each bottle you purchase from here onwards! We will taste six wines of exceptional quality.
Understanding Italy:
20 DOC wine regions, 36 DOCG regions, over 800 varietals… It can be pretty intimidating to tackle the wines of Italy. It’s a tough job, but we think you’re up to the task! From Sangiovese to Negroamaro, and from Piedmont to Tuscany to Puglia, we will taste through the best of the well-known and the obscure. There is a wine for every taste in Italy, and you’re sure to find the perfect one for you. 2 whites and 4 reds will be sampled.
